Rebuild Bay expanding organization to better help struggling residents

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The organization that was born out of Hurricane Michael is about to have a new home.

Rebuild Bay County began as an umbrella organization for non-profits aiding residents recovering from the hurricane.

That mission expanded in 2020 to help people through COVID-19, and more recently the January tornadoes.

“Our plan for A.D. Harris Learning Village is to set up a community resilience hub in our work with Hurricane Michael recovery. We found that there are resources out there and there’s much need the access to those resources is what our residents seem to struggle with, and that’s one of the things that we want to get it get at,” Executive Director for Rebuild Bay County Donna Pilson said.

The organization started packing up their bags Friday and hopes to begin providing Bay County with services at their new building as soon as possible.

Rebuild Bay County has been using several places, like the Messiah Lutheran Church and a small building on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard that’s owned by Panama City.

But they’ll soon be moving into a larger, more permanent arrangement with the city at the A.D Harris Learning Village off East 11th Street.
